When Tesla unveiled the original Model 3 Performance in 2018, it shattered the automotive industry’s perceptions of electric sports sedans. It proved that a mass-market EV could out-accelerate established petrol-powered sports saloons while delivering lower running costs and daily usability. However, as legacy rivals caught up, Tesla needed a comprehensive redesign to reclaim its dynamic crown.

The arrival of the refreshed 2024 Model 3 Performance—internally developed under the Highland moniker—marks the most significant evolution in the badge’s history. Rather than merely adding raw power, Tesla focused on structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and sophisticated chassis hardware to create a complete driver’s car.

Fourth-Generation Performance Drive Units

At the core of the 2024 Model 3 Performance is Tesla’s latest Performance 4 drive unit. Combining a front induction motor with a new high-output rear permanent-magnet motor, the dual-motor setup generates a staggering 510 horsepower and 741 Nm of instant torque. Power output remains robust well into high RPMs, addressing a common weakness of earlier electric powertrains.

Power is transmitted through a single-speed direct-drive transmission to all four wheels. With instantaneous torque vectoring, the car catapults from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and continues onto a top speed of 262 km/h.

Complemented by stiffer suspension bushings, revised anti-roll bars, and high-friction performance brake pads, the Model 3 Performance delivers flat cornering under heavy g-forces without compromising daily ride compliance.

Aerodynamic Refinement and Track-Ready Exterior

Visual changes on the 2024 Model 3 Performance serve a strict functional purpose. A redesigned front bumper with aggressive air curtains, an integrated rear diffuser, and a subtle carbon-fiber decklid spoiler work in tandem to reduce high-speed lift and balance front-to-rear aerodynamics.

The sedan rides on lightweight 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in staggered Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tires specifically developed for EV track performance, enhancing lateral grip while minimizing rolling resistance.

Cockpit Upgrades and Cabin Technology

Inside, the 2024 refresh introduces heavily bolstered performance front seats with heating and ventilation, wrapped in vegan leather with carbon-fiber trim accents across the dashboard. Acoustic glass throughout the cabin dramatically reduces wind and road noise compared to older models.

Infotainment is centered on a crisp 15.4-inch central touchscreen, supported by an additional 8-inch screen for rear passengers to control climate and entertainment media.
